UK Climate Change Program
The "Climate Change Program" sets out a package of policies and measures in which all sectors of the UK economy play their part. A new "UK Climate Change Program" was published on 28 March 2006. The target is to cut the UK 's emissions of carbon dioxide by 20% below 1990 levels by 2010. Measures taken include a climate change levy, the establishment of the Carbon Trust to recycle approximately £100 million of climate change levy receipts to accelerate the take-up of cost-effective, low carbon technologies and other measures by businesses and other levy payers. It also includes the exemption of "good quality" combined heat and power production and of renewables from the climate change levy. The government also supports individuals and communities to engage in green energies activities.
